whatever the weather is, the reindeers get to go to their pastures. of course, most of them spend the night in shelters, at the farms, but since they are very useful, locking them up wouldn't seem fair. reindeers are used for everything in oymyakon: food, clothing, transportation, and even, sometimes, decoration. most oymyakon inhabitants have a lot of tenderness for them, and they are usually fairly treated. you can rent a riding reindeer to access the places a car can't get to in the winter, for a fairly reasonable price. sometimes, you can spot wild and semi-wild horses spending time in the pastures, maybe because the farmers feed their reindeers more than just frozen grass.

in some places around oymyakon, mostly around waterpoints and rivers, a very resistant forest grows. It is composed mostly of pine and spruce trees, but also, more rarely, of birch trees. all of those can be used both as firewood and construction wood, which explains that people don't hesitate to go and chop a tree or two when needed. you can also find wild berries and flowers in the summer. sometimes, you'll spot a dead and half-eaten wapiti or deer, and, more rarely, a bear, or sometimes a tiger, though they don't usually come that far north. some people choose to live in the forest, but most houses don't have a proper electric system, heating system, or sometimes even running water.
