When he was younger, Sven was really immature. The only child of a rich family, he spent most his time drinking, smoking et acting superior with others. Since he left Norway six years ago, he became a more respectful person and started to pay more attention to people around him. During his first year in Oymyakon, he was totally depressed and stayed locked inside his house all the time. All his days were dedicated to reading et learning as much as possible when he wasn't sleeping. He’s sure that books prevented him from committing suicide and give a meaning to his life. For the last five years, he's only lived to help everybody discover the beauty and importance of reading.
The new Sven is a very kind person. A little bit shy, he doesn’t really know how to act with the inhabitants of the village. He's still ashamed of how he behaved in Norway and he’s afraid of everybody knowing what he did. Now, his only aim is to right the wrong that he did by helping those in need. Even if he tries to be as generous as possible, he makes a point to hide his wealth and let everybody think he’s just like anyone else in the village. In order to keep a low profile, he pretends that most of the money he uses to live come from the online sales of his bookstore, so he sends a box of books every week. In fact, these books are donations for an organization that helps to educate children, but he’s the only one who knows it.
